VA: Shipyard superintendent, porn convict, seeks online access at work

[dailypress.com – 6/16/20]

A superintendent at a local shipyard wants access to the internet at work despite being convicted of a child pornography charge 12 years ago.

Willoughby Warren “Billy” Colonna IV, of Colonna’s shipyard in Norfolk, is asking that his prison release terms be amended to allow him to use the internet at his family’s Norfolk ship repair business.

The Virginian-Pilot reported in 2008 that Colonna, now 40, is the grandson of the shipyard’s owner and an heir apparent at the company.
“His responsibilities are limited because of the computer restriction,” said a motion filed by his lawyer, Trey Kelleter. “He is unable to meet job demands needed to run a full project on his own and instead must depend on other superintendents and assistants to do his job.”

Prosecutors oppose the request, saying it’s too risky to allow someone convicted on a child pornography charge to get “unfettered and unmonitored Internet access for hours each day at his family’s shipyard.”

“The defendant’s original offense was highly computer and Internet dependent, as he established a server in order to exchange hundreds of videos of child pornography with other users,” the U.S. attorney’s office wrote in a court filing. Strong internet restrictions in such cases, they say, are “standard practice.”

Senior U.S. District Judge Robert G. Doumar heard oral arguments from both sides Monday but has not yet ruled.

Weren’t internet restrictions ruled unconstitutional in another state not too long ago?

what is this guy STILL on parole or something ?? evil government !

If one reads the whole article, this guy got 10 years of supervised release. He was released in 2016, so he’ll be off parole in 2026. The real tragedy of the story is that originally he received 17 years. I don’t care how many videos he had on his computer. 17 years, even his plea of 10 years is unconsciousnable for a non violent cyber offense. Just another reason why these cp laws need overhauling.

There is a menace to society that violently assaulted a 92-Year Old woman in NY this week. He’s had 100 arrests and was let out each time.

And here you have a guy on the internet that did something with digital files that is inappropriate and is arguably psychological abuse.

Everyone should rebel against this IDIOTIC GOVERNMENT if this is how God Damn backwards the United States Laws have become.

The Borderline Murderer walks around with a slap on the wrist because the US doesn’t give a Damn about violence, and someone who shared images they weren’t supposed to cannot get access to a computer for work. Disgusting DISGUSTING POLITICIANS AND LAW MAKERS IN THIS COUNTRY. I hope everyone responsible for these laws is convicted of crimes and sentenced to long Prison terms, starting with RON BOOK.
